For sure, the traditional oven in Cyprus is one of the most important parts of Cypriot architecture and tradition. Even though not many Cypriots use wood-fired ovens anymore, a small group still bakes bread, pies, and other dishes in them.
The clay, stone, and sand used to build these ovens hold heat for hours. This makes for better baking than a regular electric oven.
Talking to grandmothers and grandfathers who spent time in the yard baking in the oven and kneading, as well as those who still use traditional ovens today, brings back memories full of flavors and aromas.
