Mauricio Pinilla recently shared a heartfelt story.

The former Apollon striker revealed he has skin cancer and is getting treatment.

Even though he retired from sports five years ago, he stays active in the media in his country. He opened up about his journey and how he’s coping with this tough illness.

In an interview on Radio La Metro’s show ‘Marca Personal,’ the Chilean talked about this new chapter in his life after his professional career. He shared details about the serious illness he is facing and how he found out about it.

“I want to share an important moment in my life. I was diagnosed with prostatitis. I ended up in the clinic after some marks appeared on my skin, and they found skin cancer. I hadn’t told anyone until now,” he said, adding:

“I went through a really hard time, hospitalized for four days… Imagine, my immune system was weak. I caught the flu four times in four weeks, once it was a double infection, like having the flu twice, with a fever of 41 degrees Celsius. I entered the clinic confused; I don’t even remember how I got there.”

Luckily, they caught the condition early. The former Apollon footballer explained how he is handling it:

“It’s just the first stage, so they need to ‘burn’ these marks, and it should be resolved soon. I’m getting treatment and taking the right medication to fix it. But yes, I’ve had a lot of sun exposure and training.”

He wrapped up by saying:

“Today I feel great, although I still have sudden anxiety attacks that I manage with medication. Anxiolytics have helped me through these tough times. I’m still seeing a psychologist and psychiatrist; I’m under treatment.”
