Parents Admit to Abusing Four Children in Cyprus

Parents abused their four children, both sexually and physically. They also exploited them for labor, causing deep psychological harm. What punishment can make up for the violence and betrayal these kids faced? How many scars will they carry for life?

The case changed when the 48-year-old Greek Cypriot father and the 42-year-old Moldovan mother, who first denied the charges, confessed to almost all of them in the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca. They face over 60 charges, including sexual abuse, physical and psychological harm, and labor exploitation. The children’s living conditions in shacks in Dromolaxia were shockingly bad.

This feels like a terrible movie about human exploitation. Instead of protecting their kids, the parents used them for their own gain, leaving them to suffer in neglect and abuse. No one could help until one child bravely spoke up about the years of suffering.

In Cyprus of 2025 – a place of prosperity, good life, and human rights – behind closed doors, no one knew for sure what was happening. People only suspected but had no proof to report the crime. What punishment can ease their pain? It will be hard. No matter how long they spend in prison, no one can erase the mental and physical scars these children bear.

A big concern is that Social Welfare Services watched this family for years without taking effective action. Now society must think about its responsibility to protect these children, support them emotionally, and ensure that future generations don’t go through such trauma again.
