Rising Kindergarten Enrollments Strain School Facilities

OLOI TEAM

The age limit for enrolling in public kindergartens is being lowered, putting pressure on school facilities. Schools need to fit more kids than they can handle.

Since last school year, when the age limit dropped, many kindergartens saw a surge in enrollments. This led to capacity problems, and schools had to find temporary solutions to accommodate the children.

This year, with another age limit reduction, things are expected to get worse. Reports say that in some schools, the number of kids this year could be more than double what the facilities can hold.

To meet the rising demand, some schools have added prefabricated classrooms, or portable units. But there are concerns about their suitability. Issues like water leaks during heavy rain and uneven floors make it hard to use these spaces effectively.

The Limassol district is mainly affected by this situation, according to current information. However, experts believe similar problems may be happening or could happen in other districts since the new age rule applies across the public education system.

The infrastructure issue will likely be a hot topic in upcoming discussions. The rise in kindergarten students means we need to improve spaces to ensure safe and suitable learning conditions for all children.
