Athlete Maria Aristotelous and her husband, Andreas Cheimonidis, would have celebrated their first wedding anniversary.

The Cypriot pole vaulter, who became an inspiration to many through her life stance, inner strength, and example, was united in holy matrimony with her beloved on January 9, 2025.

A year later, the man who stood by her side in good times — and even more so in difficult ones — posted a deeply moving message on the occasion of the day they would have celebrated their first anniversary.

“You taught me so much, but most importantly that life is moments. And I lived the most beautiful ones by your side. In easy times, in hard times, in everything… together. Today we would have celebrated our first anniversary. We didn’t make it. But everything will be fine, whatever the outcome — as you used to tell me. I feel like the most blessed person in the world for being by your side through it all. I will love you forever.”

At the same time, Maria continues to leave an important mark — not only in sports but also in society. Her family received her master’s degree from the University of Peloponnese in ‘Organization and Management of Sports Activities for People with Disabilities’, which she completed with ‘Excellence’.

A moment of great honor and emotion. Another achievement that fills everyone with pride. Because some people are not measured only by medals — but by the light they leave behind.
