On Wednesday, Antonio Costa, the President of the European Council, will be in Nicosia. He’s there for the official launch of Cyprus’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Mr. Costa will first meet with Nikos Christodoulides, the President of Cyprus. In the afternoon, he’ll attend the opening ceremony, where he and Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, will give speeches.

He mentioned that he looks forward to working closely with Cyprus during its six-month presidency. He stressed the importance of strengthening the EU’s resilience and unity.

This visit follows his trip to Paris on Tuesday. There, he joined the Commission President for a meeting about Ukraine. They discussed peace talks, security guarantees, and more support for Kyiv. Mr. Costa pointed out that helping Ukraine is crucial in countering Russia.

The tour continues on Thursday in Amman for the first EU-Jordan Summit. It wraps up on Friday with visits to Damascus and Beirut. Meetings with leaders in Syria and Lebanon aim to boost the EU’s political dialogue in a changing geopolitical landscape.
