Disruptions continue today at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport after frequency issues closed the Athens FIR yesterday.
Delays are still significant, with around 2,000 bags reported lost. Airlines are working to find them. Bags for connecting flight passengers will go straight to their final destination. However, bags for those flying into Athens will stay at the airport for pickup.
This morning, traffic was heavy, with many international flights leaving hours late. Four flights scheduled between 09:30 and 10:30 were delayed by several hours. The situation at Eleftherios Venizelos is tough for passengers with luggage and those traveling with pets.
Travelers say pet slots are very limited—usually just 2 to 3 per flight—so even if there’s a seat for the passenger, a spot for the pet isn’t guaranteed. In many cases, travelers must rebook or wait for the next flight, adding more hassle during delays and changes.
