President Nikos Christodoulides announced a new package of eight additional support measures for households and businesses, aimed at cushioning the impact of regional instability and rising living costs.

On energy, VAT on electricity will be cut to 5% for all residential consumers from 1 May 2026 to 31 March 2027, while fuel excise on motor fuels will be reduced by 8.33 cents per litre for April-June 2026.

From 1 April to 30 September 2026, a zero VAT rate will apply to meat, poultry and fish, added to fruit and vegetables that are already zero-rated.

The government also said it will not impose green fuel taxation that would have increased fuel prices by a further 9 cents per litre.

For tourism, a 30% wage subsidy is planned for units and tourist accommodation operating throughout 1-30 April 2026, alongside an additional support scheme for airlines to safeguard connectivity with key tourism markets.

For agriculture, two targeted schemes are being launched: a 15% subsidy for fertiliser purchases and a 15% subsidy for agricultural inputs in April and May.

According to the presidency, the total cost of the newly announced and already active measures exceeds €200 million and is presented as fully costed within fiscal surpluses.
