Bus drivers in Cyprus, members of OMEPEGE–SEK and SEGDAMELIN–PEO unions, are holding a two-hour work stoppage today from 9:00 to 11:00.

A protest gathering is scheduled at Solomou Square in Nicosia during the same period, with unions demanding practical fixes to issues they link to the operation of the camera enforcement system.

According to the unions, repeated warnings to the Transport Ministry have not produced a meaningful solution, and they are calling for early-warning systems for red traffic lights.

They stress that sudden braking in buses carrying standing passengers or seated passengers without seat belts creates serious safety risks, while apologising to commuters for expected disruption.
