After New Year, public hospitals saw more flu A admissions, which was expected, said Charalambos Charilaou from the State Health Services Organization, speaking to CNA.
He mentioned that from January to April, flu A and other seasonal infections usually rise. This trend is not a cause for concern. He also assured that the State Health Services Organization is prepared to manage any increase in patients, both in Accident and Emergency Departments and in hospital care.
Mr. Charilaou explained that the higher number of visits to Emergency Departments during the holidays was due to private doctors being on leave. This meant more cases went to public hospitals. However, he noted that there were no reports of issues related to overeating.
He added that all cases were handled well. The fast-track patient clinics played a big role by serving non-urgent cases quickly, which kept patients happy.
