The Forestry Department has announced that the “Plant for the Climate” program is now open to everyone. From February 14 to 20, 2026, you can get saplings at six locations across Cyprus, while supplies last. The goal is to boost greenery in our cities, communities, and schools. Climate change, droughts, and forest fires remind us daily of the need to protect our environment. This program’s expansion shows that caring for the environment is a shared responsibility.
I was there too, and what struck me was not just the organization or the number of free saplings. It was the sight of children’s hands gently holding small trees with excitement and pride. This isn’t just about planting trees; it’s about teaching life lessons. When kids hold a small tree, they are planting values like responsibility and love for nature. These actions help raise awareness from a young age and give us hope for a greener future.
When we see children holding small trees, we see the future taking root. Through these activities, kids learn about care, patience, consistency, and respect for nature. They realize that protecting the climate and forests starts with their own involvement.
Such initiatives fill us with hope. They show that when the government provides the right tools, citizens respond positively. They deserve support because they nurture not just trees but also awareness. This may be the most important root we can plant for the future. I hope to see more actions that bring society together for a common goal: a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for our children.
