Popular Greek singer Ilias Vrettos was attacked during a live performance at a nightclub in Nicosia last Saturday.
According to ANT1’s morning show “Πρωινό”, the incident took place during the artist’s second set. A group of men began causing trouble over drink orders and song requests.
The situation escalated when first a musician and then Vrettos himself reacted. The men struck the singer in the face and caused damage to the venue.
Speaking to the television programme, Ilias Vrettos appeared calm and measured: “There was indeed an unfortunate incident, but I would not like to go into details because I consider it a random occurrence. I am fine, I am here, I am doing my job and we move on.”
The artist emphasised his preference for public attention to be focused on his music: “I like to be in the spotlight for things related to my music and my songs. Difficult incidents happen which we must manage. We leave them behind and move forward.”
