A revised decree on the employment of students from third countries entered into force in Cyprus on March 6. The updated framework, published in the Official Gazette of the Republic, redefines the sectors and occupations in which they may work.

The central condition concerns academic progress: students may work only after completing their first semester and enrolling in the second. According to the decree, this is meant to protect continuity of studies while allowing limited integration into the labour market.

Employment requires a defined documentation package: proof of full-time study and study schedule from a recognized institution, a monthly work schedule prepared by the employer, a copy of residence permit, and an employment contract with a specific employer certified by the Department of Labour with the basic terms stated.

The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) called on businesses to align with the new provisions so that every such hiring remains fully compliant with the current regulatory framework.
