On Thursday, a joint effort by the Limassol Police led to the arrest of six foreigners. They also received many complaints about barbershops and other places run by foreigners.
The Limassol Crime Prevention Unit worked with the Morphou and Paphos Crime Prevention Units. They teamed up with officials from the Department of Labor Inspection and the Tax Department. The goal was to enforce labor and commercial laws.
Inspections took place at 15 barbershops on main roads in Limassol. Authorities found issues in four shops that were operating without a license or outside their allowed hours. A restaurant was also reported for running without a license.
During the inspections, three foreigners were arrested for living illegally in the Republic. Three others were arrested for illegal employment. Eight foreigners were reported for not declaring their work, leading to fines totaling €26,800. Two businesses were cited for not giving receipts and not using electronic payment machines.
The Limassol Police mentioned that they checked 50 foreigners during the inspections, and no violations were found. They said targeted inspections will keep happening and will become more frequent soon.
