People are really worried and frustrated about the messy parking of electric scooters in Strovolos. Citizens say these scooters are a daily hassle for pedestrians, especially for those with disabilities.
Scooters are often left on sidewalks, access ramps, and tactile paths for the visually impaired. This makes it hard for wheelchair users and those with vision issues to get by. The problem is not just in one spot; it happens all over the area, creating unsafe and annoying situations.
Residents feel there’s a total lack of respect and are calling for immediate action from the Authorities, to better control and enforce rules about using and parking scooters. They emphasize that micromobility shouldn’t come at the expense of our most vulnerable citizens. Electric scooters appeared quite suddenly in Cyprus, even though they’ve been popular in Europe for years. However, using them properly is still a challenge.
Many scooter riders don’t follow basic Traffic Code rules, ride unpredictably, or ignore signs, which raises the chances of accidents.

The lack of proper information and training for users causes big problems, not just for people with disabilities who find sidewalks blocked but also for drivers on the road.
Micromobility can be a great solution if it comes with rules, respect, and responsibility. The road and sidewalk belong to everyone—not just to those who can move freely.
