There’s been a surprising twist in the case against DISY MP Nikos Syka. The complainant has sent a letter to the Limassol Police Department, withdrawing her complaint against him.
The MP’s partner had filed a complaint on January 4 for assault while they were in Athens for New Year’s. She changed her mind and decided to withdraw the complaint.
Her lawyer informed the investigative authorities verbally about her decision and later sent a letter to the police explaining why.
This happened while the Legal Service was getting ready to ask the Supreme Court to lift the MP’s immunity. Police were instructed to gather more statements to support the woman’s testimony. They took statements from people in Cyprus who knew about the incident, and also requested statements from Greek authorities regarding those who were aware of what happened.
This included the doctor who examined the MP’s partner in Athens and others, like a taxi driver who took her to the clinic.
Even though the complainant changed her mind, the Legal Service has already filed a request with the Supreme Court to lift the MP’s immunity. According to a post by the Attorney General on ‘X’, the application was filed today and is set for a hearing on January 12, 2026, at 11 a.m.
The investigations will continue and be completed, no matter what the complainant decides. If evidence is found, the case will move forward in court, and she will be called to testify. If she refuses, a decision will be made then on how to proceed.
