A highly advanced bionic prosthesis was successfully fitted to a 45-year-old patient at the American Medical Center. This surgery restored his ability to use a functional upper limb. It took place on November 28, 2025, and was done by Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Stelios Hadjichristofi, who placed a BADAL press-fit type cylindrical implant in the arm.

Once osseointegration is complete in the coming weeks, the patient will start progressive loading of the limb. This will help fully adapt the bionic prosthesis before he begins training to use it. The high-tech prosthesis features a myoelectric elbow, wrist, and multi-articulated hand, allowing him to regain important movements.

The patient lost his left hand in a serious motorcycle accident in September 2024. Despite the amputation and several injuries, he recovered within six months through physiotherapy and surgeries. However, losing his upper limb still impacted his daily life. Because of his age and good overall health, he was seen as an ideal candidate for this advanced solution.

The Ministry of Health approved the procedure, and the Orthopedic Applications Center built the bionic arm and prepared the patient. Once everything is done, the 45-year-old is expected to enjoy greater independence and an improved quality of life.
