The Cultural Program of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union starts in January. It features a mix of cultural activities in Cyprus and beyond. Expect visual arts, photography exhibitions, and international music events.
The Deputy Ministry of Culture says the program spans 31 countries. It includes 11 main events and a network of activities through Cyprus’s diplomatic missions in 20 more countries.
On January 21, the Opening Gala will be held in Brussels. There will be a concert by Stavros Lantsias and a five-member band at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts. The next day, January 22, the Justus Lipsius and Europa buildings will showcase works by Cypriot artists and designs by Michalis Anastasiades.
On January 27, Andros Efstathiou’s photo exhibition “Nicosia International Airport” opens to the public at the European Parliament.
Back in Cyprus, on January 17, the newly renovated permanent exhibitions at the Cyprus Museum will open. Then on January 29, “Agropoetics: Soils/Bodies,” curated by Elena Parpa, will be presented at SPEL in Nicosia.
Throughout the Presidency, “Encounters: The Worlds of Cyprus,” curated by Christina Lambrou, will take place. Plus, Larnaca International Airport “Glafkos Clerides” will feature artistic interventions to boost Cyprus’s cultural presence in public spaces.
