With dam levels at a low, standing at approximately 21% of their total capacity, the state is rolling out an awareness campaign for water conservation.

The campaign, titled “Water for Tomorrow Too,” is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Water Development Department, aiming to reduce consumption by 10% within 2026.

A central element of the communication strategy is informing citizens about the severity of the situation, as well as answering questions regarding water use in various sectors of the economy.

Special emphasis is placed on educating students, as officials from the Water Development Department are conducting informative visits to schools with the goal of students passing on the message of conservation to their families.

At the center of the campaign is the Kouris Dam, which supplies a large part of the country. Its reserves currently stand at about 22 million cubic meters of water, with a capacity of around 19%.

At the same time, practical conservation measures are being promoted, such as the distribution of flow reducers and showerheads to approximately 600,000 households across Cyprus.

The Ministry of Education is reinforcing actions in schools with the program “Not a Drop Wasted,” while Minister Athena Michaelidou announced the promotion of water reuse systems in school facilities.

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, average daily water consumption per person reaches 140 liters, and the goal is to reduce it to 125 liters through simple daily changes, such as taking shorter showers, limiting the use of hoses, and checking for leaks.
