Another Friday night has exposed the scale of the drink-driving problem on Cypriot roads. Police carried out extensive patrols at key urban locations across the island, with 33 drivers arrested on the spot.
According to the official announcement, 916 vehicles were stopped and 1,231 occupants were checked. In parallel, 38 premises inspections led to nine violations being recorded, while ten vehicles were impounded.
In total, 492 traffic violations of various kinds were logged, and 341 breathalyser tests were conducted during the night. The figures highlight that despite persistent warnings, a significant number of drivers continue to get behind the wheel while unfit to drive.
The police operation forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen road safety, particularly during weekend nights when drink-driving incidents peak.
