George Papadakis Remembered with Candle and Roses

As a heartfelt tribute, George Papadakis’ close colleagues placed a lit candle and white roses on his desk. It was a simple but meaningful ‘thank you’ to a man who was a morning news icon for many years.

The sight of the empty desk tells its own story. Once bustling with news, it was quiet today. The white flowers — symbols of respect and purity — along with the candle’s light showed the station’s grief in a sincere way. For those who worked with him, George Papadakis was more than just a presenter or supervisor. He was a teacher, a mentor, almost like a father figure. His absence has left the space feeling still and silent.

The news of his death on Sunday afternoon, January 4th, from a heart attack, shocked not just the journalism world. The man who made television history and left a lasting impact on journalism had previously battled serious heart issues.

In 2012, during a talk about medication on ‘Good Morning Greece,’ he shared an unknown part of his life: he had suffered a heart attack in 2006, even while on air. Still, he returned to work just days later. ‘I didn’t miss even half an hour of work,’ he said then — a statement that now sums up his entire journey.
