President Christodoulides has given explicit orders to the Minister of Health and the Deputy Minister for Innovation to intervene in the critical issues surrounding the General Healthcare System (GeSY) software. The goal is to help the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) break free from the legal deadlock with the contractor.

During yesterday’s meeting between the President and HIO leadership, the system’s operational problems were analysed, along with negotiations aimed at not renewing the contract in May so that the Organisation can take over software management itself.

The biggest disagreement concerns software “ownership.” The HIO maintains that the IT system belongs to it, a claim the contractor disputes. Time is pressing: if the situation is not resolved by early April, the problem will escalate significantly.

Also discussed were increases in medication co-payments following the new price list, with one drug reaching €22. The use of state aircraft for transporting patients abroad was also on the agenda.

The President stressed that Health and Education remain key priorities, describing related spending as “investment” rather than “expenditure.” He pledged continuous assessment and resolution of every challenge within GeSY.
