Limassol’s tourism is doing well, says Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis. He highlighted the need for everyone to work together to improve the destination.
The Deputy Minister led a meeting at the Limassol Chamber of Commerce. It included representatives from the Tourism Development and Promotion Company, local mayors, and tourism groups. He mentioned that the Deputy Ministry has asked local authorities to send proposals based on ten areas to help upgrade the destination.
The Limassol district brings in about 12.4% of all visitors. The city has a good reputation in the international market and performs better even in winter.
They discussed how to use and improve public spaces, like Tsirio Stadium and the coastal area. Aktaios Road is also expected to boost tourism once it’s finished.
Mr. Koumis pointed out that Limassol’s hotels are top-notch and mainly attract higher-income visitors. Many travelers also stay with friends or family who live there, which affects how much they spend on average.
Andreas Tsouloftas, president of the Tourism Development and Promotion Company and the Limassol Chamber of Commerce, said they have already submitted a memorandum with proposals. They are asking for support from the Deputy Ministry to implement larger plans and improve the staff of the Tourism Development Company.
