Starting Monday, February 2, a new drug price list will take effect. This will change the contributions paid by General Healthcare System (GHS) beneficiaries when they fill prescriptions at private pharmacies.
This year, the Ministry of Health reviewed contributions for 291 pharmaceutical products. They found that 94 drugs will see price drops, while 197 products will have price increases among the reimbursable medications.
The Health Insurance Organization says patients can avoid higher contributions. They can choose a cheaper equivalent drug with the same active ingredient and concentration. This substitution can be done after talking to the pharmacist or with the doctor’s agreement.
If a beneficiary wants to keep taking the same medication, they can do so. However, they will need to pay the new higher contribution if it has increased.
