With tight security, a 58-year-old man accused of killing 26-year-old Alexandros Antoniou was taken to the Paphos Criminal Court this morning.
The Paphos District Court agreed to the request from the defendant’s lawyers and set a new trial date for March 30, 2026. The 58-year-old was moved from Central Prisons, where he is being held, as the District Court ordered his detention until the trial starts. The Court highlighted that premeditated murder is one of the most serious crimes, as life is the highest value. It also mentioned that without detention, there is a risk the suspect might not show up in court.
It’s important to note that the 58-year-old admitted to killing Alexandros Antoniou, calling it a “bad moment”. According to Sergeant Andronikos Tsapis of TAE, the suspect got a call from his daughter, who was dating the 26-year-old. She told him that the young man was bothering her outside her home in Konia.
On his way to her house, the suspect said he saw the victim’s car and approached him to give him a warning. He claimed that during their meeting, the 26-year-old pulled out a knife, which led to an injury that caused his death.
