On the occasion of the anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising in 1973, students of all levels from Nicosia, as well as university students, participated today in a peaceful march, demonstrating their respect for historical memory and the ideals of democracy.
Fifty-two years after the Polytechnic uprising, students emphasized during today’s march the importance of historical memory and the need to always defend the values of freedom and democracy. The march, organized by the Pancyprian Coordinating Committee of Students (PSEM), began at 10:30 a.m. from the offices of PASYDY and headed towards the American Embassy. The students held banners and chanted slogans, while songs evoking the spirit of that era filled the air.

The event proceeded smoothly, with police ensuring order, while today’s younger generation proved that they continue to keep the memory of the Polytechnic alive, sending a resounding message for peace, democracy, and human rights. Student representatives delivered a protest resolution to the American embassy.
The messages of November 1973 are more relevant today than ever.

The event concluded with songs by Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Loizos, creating an emotionally charged atmosphere of remembrance that connected younger generations with past struggles. The students emphasized their duty to keep the message of the Polytechnic alive against all forms of injustice and authoritarianism.
