The Executive Bureau of the Democratic Rally has decided to remove Nikos Sykas from the ballot. This follows a police report about an alleged assault on his partner. They also plan to meet on Wednesday, January 7.
Annita Dimitriou previously said that “there is zero tolerance for violence allegations,” stressing the need for quick and clear investigations. She noted that while respecting the presumption of innocence, these cases must be taken seriously. She also mentioned that waiving immunity is important, as violence against women goes against the party’s values.
Nikos Sykas strongly denies any involvement in this case through a social media post. He is very unhappy that the allegation was made public before the authorities had finished reviewing the evidence.
In his statement, he regrets having to speak out about a case still being investigated. He rejects both the allegation and the suggestions made against him. He points out the “public trials” happening in the media and social networks before he even had a chance to testify.
Despite his concerns, Nikos Sykas shows full respect for the investigation process and says he is ready to cooperate with the authorities to clarify this case and restore the truth.
