The Pancyprian Parents’ Association of the Pediatric Oncology Clinic is worried about serious issues from the upgrade works at the Makarios Hospital that affect the Clinic’s operation.
While they agree that the building needs renovation, the Association reminds everyone that a long-term goal is to build a new, modern Mother and Child Hospital. From the start, Associations, Foundations supporting the Clinic, and OSAK raised concerns about how and what kind of work is being done. There is special worry about the second floor, where the work impacts hospitalized children, their families, and staff.
Recently, serious issues have come up: loud noise makes it hard for kids to rest and affects their mood and their parents’ too. Falling soil and dust from ceilings put immunocompromised children at risk. Plus, there have been water leaks in beds and other areas of the Clinic. Water supply interruptions and cloudy water raise hygiene and safety concerns.
The Association stresses that children’s safety is a top priority and families need a calm, clean, and safe place while they are already facing tough challenges with their children.

This is why they ask for an immediate review of safety measures and daily monitoring of the work to avoid further issues for the Clinic. The Association promises to stay alert and support families by demanding full protection for children.
