Cyprus will see more river flow on Saturday. Weather forecasts show better conditions and more rain is likely.
Meteorologist Eric Kita says the rivers will strengthen, bringing much-needed water to the dams. This will help the country’s water reserves a bit. However, the situation at the dams is still serious. Recent data shows that water reserves are very low, at only about 13-14% of total capacity. Big reservoirs like the Kouri Dam are almost empty, so any water coming in is crucial for supply.
The drought has lasted four years now, and even with some recent rain, the dams haven’t refilled. The expected inflows on Saturday should give a temporary boost to the water situation.
Authorities and water services are keeping a close eye on things, stressing that managing reserves and water use is important, especially as spring and summer approach when demand will rise.
