Severe weather has caused big problems in many areas of Cyprus. Relevant services are always on the move. From Sunday morning until 5:30 PM, the Fire Service handled 43 incidents related to the bad weather.

Most incidents involved fallen trees, dangerous objects, and damaged vehicles, according to the Fire Service. Fire crews towed stuck vehicles, pumped water from flooded places, and dealt with sparking wires. They also had to remove detached tanks, pergolas, and other items blown away by strong winds.

The Larnaca district faced the worst of it. Gale-force winds up to 9 Beaufort caused serious issues. Boats from the Department of Fisheries were swept away, with one crashing into the breakwaters at the Naval Base in Mari. There were reports of fallen trees and signs in various locations.

Other districts also experienced problems. In Limassol, firefighters managed fallen trees and removed sheets from roofs. Similar calls came from Nicosia, Paphos, and Famagusta.

In one case, a tree fell in a parking area and crushed a parked vehicle, damaging its roof and bodywork. Authorities are staying alert as severe weather continues to hit many parts of the island.

This severe weather also harmed agriculture badly. In the free Famagusta district, strong winds destroyed greenhouses and crops. Producers reported major losses in just minutes. Crews from the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia were out early in the morning to remove fallen trees and help restore traffic flow on various roads.
