For a while, it’s been obvious that Mariusz Stepinski isn’t one of Henning Berg’s top picks. This isn’t just a guess or rumor; it’s shown in the coach’s choices in nearly every match. Whether in the starting lineup or on the bench, the Polish forward is often missing, and that says a lot.
When asked recently, Berg explained that Stepinski had an injury that held him back. During that time, other forwards were competing hard for spots, leaving no room for him. It was a respectful statement but didn’t change the core issue.
The reality is that now, with Stepinski fully healthy, things haven’t changed. Berg still leaves him out of his selections, showing his clear preferences. It’s no longer about injury or fitness; it’s simply a coaching choice and philosophy.
No one doubts that Stepinski is a talented player. His record, goals, and experience support the talk around his name. But in football, especially on championship teams, what matters is what the coach wants and which type of forward fits his plan.
Meanwhile, a Cypriot player from our academies, Angelos Neophytou, has stepped up. He’s getting chances and proving he can shine. When the coach chooses differently and invests in a young local talent, there’s no need to keep discussing the same points.
Berg’s message is clear. As long as it stays this way, it’s best to accept it.
