The tax reform has raised monetary penalties to make them more effective. It started at the beginning of the year and goes along with changes in income tax.
The fine for businesses that don’t accept card payments is now €6,000. This aims to reduce tax evasion and improve transaction transparency.
Penalties for not submitting tax returns or data have also gone up, with a daily fee of €20. Hiding income and failing to issue receipts can lead to a €5,000 fine.
If individuals are late, they face a €150 penalty. Small businesses will pay €250, while large companies owe €500. These amounts double if the issue continues after the Tax Commissioner sends a notice.
Breaking into sealed premises is now a criminal offense, with fines up to €30,000 or two years in prison. Managers are also responsible if taxes are unpaid.
For the extraordinary defense contribution, the fine can go up to €5,000 for a first offense and €100,000 for repeat offenses, along with possible jail time. Also, penalties for financial crimes related to defense equipment can reach €30,000 — and up to €100,000 for public officials.
