The Consumer Protection Service explains travelers’ rights when trips are canceled due to issues in the Middle East.
Travelers can cancel their organized trip for free before it starts if there are serious problems at the destination or nearby that affect the trip.
These problems include war, serious safety concerns, major health risks, or natural disasters. In such cases, travelers get a full refund of what they paid, without extra compensation.
The Service says that organizers can also cancel the trip if these conditions make it impossible to go. They must refund all payments made.
Organizers can suggest postponing the trip or giving a credit note. However, accepting a voucher is entirely up to the traveler.
If a credit note is given, travelers should check that it allows for a refund if not used. Organizers must also ensure it is safe in case they go bankrupt.
For travelers already on a trip and unable to return due to serious issues, the organizer must pay for their stay in a similar hotel for up to three nights unless European laws say otherwise.
The Service encourages everyone to stay updated with official news from authorities and travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For more information, they can call 1429.
