The Ministry of Interior has received two letters about the Mayors of Paphos and the Unrecognized Republic of Northern Cyprus, according to Elikkos Elias, the General Director of the Ministry.
The first letter is from the Chief of Police and is about the Mayor of Paphos. The second letter comes from the Legal Service and concerns the Mayor of the Unrecognized Republic of Northern Cyprus. Mr. Elias said they will review the letters when the Minister of Interior returns to Cyprus from abroad.
Angel Onisiforou is the Deputy Mayor of Paphos and will automatically take over as Mayor, as required by law.
If a sitting Mayor is convicted, elections will be held. Until then, the Deputy Mayor manages the Municipality.

It’s still unclear if the letter about the Mayor of Paphos relates to an ongoing police investigation or a new complaint. Regarding procedures, the General Director explained that if a Mayor is suspended, their duties go to the Deputy Mayor. In Paphos, Angel Onisiforou takes over, while in the Unrecognized Republic of Northern Cyprus, Theodoros Choiras steps in.
In the Unrecognized Republic of Northern Cyprus, Theodoros Choiras is the Deputy Mayor and takes on mayoral duties.
